Another arctic blast is on the move toward the U.S., bringing the potential for bitter cold and heavy snow accumulations to Ohio.

Heavy snow and blustery winds are expected to hit parts of the U.S. from Wednesday through to Thursday evening—and in some cases into Friday morning—which, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), could bring up to 24 inches of snow to certain areas.

The snow rumors notwithstanding, the Philadelphia region and most of the rest of the Northeast can pretty well rule out a white Thanksgiving, nor will Black Friday turn white.

Schools are closed and traffic has come to a standstill as parts of north-east England are blanketed with snow. Most of the region is under a Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice until 21:00 GMT, with frequent wintry showers and significant snow build-up expected.

The NWS has warned that heavy snowfall and—in some cases—blustery, high winds could “cause hazardous travel conditions.”

Frequent wintry showers, leading to significant snow accumulations, are likely to cause disruption on Thursday, the Met Office said. There could also be gusty winds, which could become blizzards at points, and potentially a few lightning strikes.
